Len is the reigning Surf Lifesaving champion, revered in the tight-knit surf club, much like his father before him. However, the arrival of the younger, more agile Phil threatens Len’s esteemed position. One day, Len discovers that Phil is gay when he sees him with another man. Following the annual awards dinner, a confrontational encounter occurs in the Club House locker room where Len brutally attacks Phil. Surprisingly, Phil chooses to stay silent about the incident. When Phil emerges victorious in the annual competition, it marks Len’s ultimate defeat. Overcome with bitterness, Len coerces Phil into drinking and subjects him to degrading acts.
