Escape from Sobibor

During World War II, the Commandant of Sobibor camp, alarmed by a previous escape at Treblinka, vowed it would never happen at his camp. Jewish laborers, aware they were living on borrowed time, knew their only hope lay in escaping, but the method remained uncertain. On October 14, 1943, the camp’s underground resistance launched a daring operation, killing eleven German officers and several Ukrainian guards to orchestrate a mass escape. Of the 600 prisoners, approximately 300 managed to flee, although many were later caught and executed. Their bold actions forced the Nazis to shut down the camp, dismantle it, and conceal the site with a forest. Escape from Sobibor (1987) can be streamed right here.
