Frank Serpico

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, NYPD officer Frank Serpico made headlines for exposing corruption within the department, enduring a gunshot wound to the face during a drug bust, and becoming the inspiration for Sidney Lumet’s iconic film, “Serpico.” Now, over 40 years later, Serpico himself delves into his Southern Italian heritage, his experiences as an undercover officer, and his life after leaving the NYPD, which took him through Europe and eventually to upstate New York. Accompanied by recollections from colleagues, childhood friends, West Side neighbors, and admirers like writer Luc Sante and actor John Turturro, the film is enriched with original compositions by Jack White and a score by Brendan Canty of Fugazi. Antonino D’Ambrosio presents an engaging documentary that captures the essence of a dedicated public servant who remains true to his principles in his own distinctive style.
