Freedom

In “Freedom (2014),” two men, separated by a century, become linked in their quest for liberation. In 1856, Samuel Woodward, a slave, along with his family, flees from the oppressive Monroe Plantation near Richmond, Virginia. Guided by the clandestine Underground Railroad, they make their treacherous journey northward to Canada, all the while pursued by the relentless slave hunter Plimpton. Samuel, tormented by the brutal legacy of his past, must choose between vengeance or liberation. A century earlier, in 1748, John Newton, the captain of a slave ship, embarks on a journey from Africa to America with his human cargo, including Samuel’s ancestor.
