Harakiri

Jobless and without kin, veteran samurai Tsugumo Hanshirō enters the courtyard of the affluent House of Iyi. He seeks a dignified place for seppuku and a trustworthy second to deliver the final stroke in his suicide ritual. The senior counselor, skeptical of Hanshirō’s intentions, believes the ronin might be seeking charity instead of an honorable death. This leads to two intertwining stories that explore the true nature of honor and respect while challenging the mythical tenets of the Samurai code. Harakiri (1962) is available to stream online here.
