Heartbreakers Beach Party

In 2024, a remarkable discovery was made with the recovery of the long-presumed lost 16mm reels from Cameron Crowe’s debut movie, “Heartbreakers Beach Party.” This iconic documentary from the 1980s vividly showcases Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as they wrap up, promote, and tour their “Long After Dark” album during 1982-1983—an album that marked their final collaboration with the legendary producer Jimmy Iovine. Originally broadcast on MTV in 1983, the film was soon considered too avant-garde and removed from circulation. Over the ensuing decades, it attained mythical status among fans, musicians, and entertainment insiders, even inspiring memorable moments in “Spinal Tap.” Watch “Heartbreakers Beach Party (2024)” streaming online for free.
