Hooligan Sparrow

The tension is unmistakable as fearless filmmaker Nanfu Wang documents the courageous journey of activist Ye Haiyan, known as Hooligan Sparrow, and her team in Hainan Province, southern China. They are there to protest a harrowing incident where six young schoolgirls were victims of abuse by their principal. Labeled as adversaries of the government, these brave activists endure relentless monitoring, questioning, and threats of incarceration. Known for her audacious activism for sex workers’ rights, Sparrow tirelessly advocates for the rights of girls and women, leveraging the vast influence of social media.
