Hostage

Hostage (2014) is a poignant tragicomic narrative that explores the world of child protagonists. The story centers on the son of a local communist officer and his friend, a young hostage to the regime whose parents fled to the West a few years before the dramatic events of the “Prague Spring” and the occupation of Czechoslovakia. It vividly portrays the bonds of friendship, the initial discoveries of love, gang skirmishes, and naive notions clashing with the stark adult realities. The movie delves into the bizarre and absurd adult world filled with politics, emigration, betrayal, and death, profoundly affecting the young boys who must mature prematurely.
