Hotori no Sakuko

Three years after the events of Hospitalité, Kiki Sugino and Koji Fukada reunite to bring a thought-provoking film centered on an 18-year-old girl navigating the cusp between adolescence and adulthood during a transformative summer. The film follows Sakuko, who, while preparing for her university entrance exams, decides to join her aunt Mikie on a trip to a coastal town. There, she forms a meaningful connection with Takashi, a Fukushima refugee who left high school to work at Ukichi’s motel, a friend of Mikie’s. Set against this backdrop, Sakuko grapples with the complexities of maturing into an adult. Hotori no Sakuko is available to stream online.
