In My Father’s Den

War journalist Paul, played by Macfadyen, returns to his isolated hometown in New Zealand after the passing of his father, bearing the emotional scars and exhaustion from his global experiences. Sixteen-year-old Celia (Barclay), yearning for more than her small-town life, sees in Paul the excitement of a world she only imagined and eagerly builds a friendship with him. Her fascination with Paul’s world-weariness and experience draws disapproval from both families (Otto, Moy). When Celia suddenly disappears, suspicion falls heavily on Paul, making him the main target of anger and blame. As the shocking truth begins to come to light, Paul is made to confront the painful family secrets and betrayals he fled from as a young man, unraveling the burdens of silence that have clouded his life. “In My Father’s Den (2004)” is available to stream now.
