Ithaca

In the quiet California town of San Joaquin Valley, 14-year-old Homer Macauley is on a mission to become the swiftest bicycle telegraph messenger. With his elder brother off at war, Homer is tasked with caring for his widowed mother, older sister, and younger brother, Ulysses, who is just four years old. As the seasons transition from spring to summer in 1942, Homer Macauley embarks on a journey, delivering messages of love, hope, anguish, and loss to the residents of Ithaca. Specifically, one message impacts him profoundly, transforming him from boyhood into manhood. Inspired by William Saroyan’s 1943 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “The Human Comedy,” Ithaca epitomizes the timeless wartime narrative of the Home Front. It’s a coming-of-age tale that captures the joy of youth, the beauty of life, the sorrow of loss, and the inherent goodness residing within us all. Watch Ithaca (2015) free online now.
