Josh and S.A.M.

In “Josh and S.A.M.” (1993), we follow two brothers, Josh and Sam, who are navigating a time of significant change in their lives. Their mother is getting ready to marry a French accountant, resulting in the brothers being sent to live with their father in Florida. During this upheaval, Josh concocts a story for Sam, telling him that he is a “S.A.M.”—a child soldier meant to fight in a war in Africa—and only Canada can offer refuge for S.A.M.s who refuse to fight. As they embark on this journey to the north, the brothers face the uncertainty of whether reaching Canada will solve their problems or if they’ll regret leaving home behind.
