Larry Kramer in Love and Anger

From the early days of the AIDS crisis, writer Larry Kramer took on the role of a passionate activist, resembling an Old Testament prophet filled with intense anger. Using his voice, he condemned the government’s negligence and criticized the gay community for not reducing potentially hazardous behaviors. He helped establish the service group Gay Men’s Health Crisis and the protest collective ACT UP. While some perceived his critique as self-loathing, others celebrated him for awakening the gay community—and eventually the government and health institutions—to the disease’s destruction.
