Le comte Ory

Rossini’s “Le Comte Ory” explores the antics of a clever and lustful nobleman who takes on the guise of both a hermit and a nun to infiltrate the world of the virtuous Countess Adele, whose brother is off on Crusade. The 2011 performance at the Met, directed by Tony Award recipient Bartlett Sher, cleverly reimagines the story by setting it several centuries later and features extravagant hats designed by Catherine Zuber. The title character is portrayed by Juan Diego Flórez, with Diana Damrau as Countess Adele and Joyce DiDonato captivating as the pageboy Isolier. Maurizio Benini leads with remarkable flair, joined by the elegant French baritone Stéphane Degout as Ory’s tipsy accomplice Raimbaud and the engaging Italian bass Michele Pertusi as the long-enduring Tutor. Enjoy Swedish dramatic mezzo Susanne Resmark in her strong portrayal of Adele’s housekeeper, Ragonde. Watch Le Comte Ory (2011) online right here.
