Le dernier des injustes

Set in Theresienstadt, the so-called “model ghetto,” which was deceitfully portrayed as a propaganda piece to the world, this narrative explores the complex dynamics of deception staged by Adolf Eichmann, serving as a precursor to the gruesome reality of the gas chambers. At the heart of this account is Benjamin Murmelstein, the last president of the Theresienstadt Jewish Council, who faced the moral and ethical predicaments of regularly negotiating with Eichmann from 1938 until the conclusion of the war. Although he was intimately familiar with Eichmann’s methods, Murmelstein was never summoned to testify at the Nazi’s trial, making his story one of both tragedy and heroism. Directed by Claude Lanzmann, “Le dernier des injustes” peels back layers of history to uncover a neglected dimension of the Holocaust, providing invaluable insight into the origins of the “Final Solution.” Watch it online.
