Trailer
Overview
In “Lonbraz Kann” (2014), the sun sets on a bygone era as Marco, Bissoon, and their comrades face the impending closure of the sugar factory where they’ve dedicated their lives. The dwindling profitability of sugarcane signals its replacement by opulent villas, golf courses, and playgrounds for affluent tourists, making it an inaccessible zone for the working class. As their familiar lifestyle comes tumbling down, some grapple with adjusting to this unfamiliar environment, while others contemplate leaving the country behind. Bissoon finds himself steeped in frustration, a sense of emptiness, and the lingering effects of neo-colonialism. Marco, on the other hand, becomes fascinated with Devi, the wife of the domineering figure responsible for dismantling the factory. Through this poignant tale, David Constantin continues his filmmaking journey of spotlighting Mauritius, transitioning from tradition toward modernity. Discover the layers beneath the glossy image of paradise, revealing a world far from perfection. Watch “Lonbraz Kann” online here.
