Margot

In Margot (2009), at the age of forty, Dame Margot Fonteyn, once a revered prima ballerina, faces diminishing roles at the Royal Ballet under Ninette de Valois. Her career receives an electrifying boost when she connects with Rudolf Nureyev, the charismatic young Russian dancer who fled to the West. Their chemistry both on and off the stage revitalizes Margot’s career, and Frederick Ashton crafts a mesmerizing new ballet for their partnership, solidifying their status as the golden pair of ballet. Yet, her personal life is complex; Margot is wed to Roberto ‘Tito’ Arias, a Panamanian political figure with questionable integrity and likely infidelities. After Tito is tragically shot and left paralyzed, Margot tirelessly dances into her sixties to afford his expensive care, though she continues to dance with Rudolf on occasion.
