Memories of a Penitent Heart

A quarter-century after Miguel’s death from AIDS, his niece, filmmaker Cecilia Aldarondo, delves into the tangled web of lingering family conflicts. Just as many gay men did in the 1980s, Miguel left Puerto Rico for New York City, where he pursued a theater career and found a fulfilling relationship. However, he struggled with his faith and sexuality as he neared his final moments. Years later, Cecilia finds Miguel’s lover Robert, who was marginalized by the family, to uncover the complete narrative.
