Monuments

In the delightful road trip comedy “Monuments,” a bereaved young man tries to move beyond his sorrow and family strife by taking his late wife’s ashes on a spontaneous journey across America’s Midwest. Along the way, Ted, played by David Sullivan, gets mixed up with a quirky group of individuals, such as his adversary Howl, portrayed by Javier Muñoz, who alternately help and hinder his quest to recover something lost long before his wife Laura, acted by Marguerite Moreau, passed away. Brimming with humor and hope, “Monuments” transforms a narrative of grief, loss, and marriage into one of 2021’s most uplifting indie films.
