Project Nim

From the creators of Man on Wire, Project Nim (2011) explores the fascinating tale of a chimp named Nim, who became the centerpiece of a groundbreaking 1970s experiment intended to prove apes could use language if brought up as human children. The film traces Nim’s remarkable path through human environments and observes the lasting influence he has on those he encounters, offering an honest and unsentimental portrait of an animal we endeavored to humanize. The insights it provides into Nim’s authentic self—and, by extension, our own—are both humorous and deeply thought-provoking. Project Nim (2011) streaming is available to watch here.
