Samayou koyubi

From the age of five, Ryosuke has been relentlessly pursued by Momoko, the least attractive girl in their village. Despite Momoko’s deep affection for Ryosuke, which drives her to undergo extensive surgery to appeal to him, Ryosuke remains uninterested and seeks temporary liaisons, such as with a crime boss’s girlfriend. When the gangster discovers this affair, Ryosuke suffers the loss of his little finger, which somehow ends up with Momoko. Seizing this bizarre opportunity, she uses the finger to create a clone of Ryosuke, so she can finally possess a version of him for herself. This intriguing narrative sets the stage for Lisa Takeba’s intense and imaginative feature debut, “Samayou koyubi (2014).” A remarkable blend of sci-fi, gangster genres, hospital eroticism, and animation, this film is chaotic yet fundamentally heartfelt.
