Samurai Hustle

Set during the era of the eighth shogun in the Tokugawa shogunate, the story unfolds in the modest Yunagaya Domain located within the Tohoku region. This seemingly insignificant han harbors a hidden treasure—its own gold mine. Masaatsu Naito, the domain’s head, is suddenly tasked with the sankin-kotai, a customary visit to the shogun in Edo, with only five days to accomplish this journey that usually takes eight. The twist? A government official covets the gold mine, and the costs of the sankin-kotai make the mission appear unachievable for the small domain. Defying the odds, Masaatsu Naito launches an audacious plan to meet the daunting challenge of completing the sankin-kotai in just five days. Watch “Samurai Hustle (2014)” here.
