Everybody Hates Chris

Overview
Everybody Hates Chris is a U.S. sitcom exploring comedian Chris Rock’s challenging teenage years in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Although the show takes place from 1982 to 1987, Rock’s actual teenage years were from 1978 to 1983. His childhood friend, Kenny Montero, inspired many episodes and is often credited by Rock as a catalyst for his comedy career. The show’s title humorously contrasts with CBS’s popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, as Rock quipped, “Everybody Loves Raymond, but Everybody Hates Chris!” The series starred Tyler James Williams, Terry Crews, Tichina Arnold, Tequan Richmond, Imani Hakim, and Vincent Martella.
In 2008, The CW shifted Everybody Hates Chris and The Game to a less favorable Friday night timeslot dubbed the “death slot.” The fourth season debuted on October 3, 2008, at 8:00 PM Eastern/7:00 PM Central. Unfortunately, The CW canceled the series on May 21, 2009. However, Chris Rock had noted that the show aligned with his life journey, particularly his decision to quit high school to pursue comedy, suggesting it was time to conclude the series.
