Hymn of Death

Set against the backdrop of the 1920s, “Hymn of Death” depicts the poignant and real-life romance between Kim Woo Jin, a stage drama writer who is already married, and Yun Shim Duk, Korea’s pioneering soprano. The two meet during their studies at Tokyo University, and their love story unfolds amidst the era’s societal constraints. Adding to the tale’s sorrow, Yun Shim Duk’s “Death Song,” released in 1926, made history as Korea’s first pop song. Watch “Hymn of Death (2018)” streaming free online here.
