On The Ropes

In “On The Ropes (2018),” we follow Amirah Al-Amir, a dedicated Iraqi-Australian, as she pursues her passion for boxing training, inspired by her world champion father, Sami. As she manages a gym in Sydney’s western suburbs with her two brothers, she secures a professional debut match for her determined fighter Jess O’Connor, dealing with Sami’s long-standing promoter, Strick, without her father’s knowledge. This decision incenses Sami, who threatens to sever ties with her. Amirah faces a poignant dilemma: should she follow her fighter’s promising future, or remain loyal to her family’s legacy?
