Ride Upon the Storm

The narrative focuses on a family deeply intertwined with the church: Johannes, his wife Elisabeth, and their sons, August and Christian. Johannes holds a commanding presence over his sons, akin to a divine figure who can bestow love, gifts, and harsh reprimands. While he clearly favors August, Christian struggles with feelings of inadequacy, leading both brothers to make life-altering decisions in pursuit of either winning their father’s affection or liberating themselves from his influence.
