Shortcut to Happiness

In New York City, aspiring writer Jabez Stone finds himself on a losing streak: he’s unable to sell his novels, lives in a dilapidated apartment, and struggles to find success with women. After his friend Julius Jenson makes a lucrative sale of his manuscript for $190,000, Jabez becomes envious and rashly declares that he’d trade his soul to the devil for success. In a twist of fate, Jabez accidentally causes a woman’s death with his typewriter. The Devil appears, resolves the incident, and enters into a pact with Jabez. Though his poorly written novels receive terrible reviews, they become best-sellers; Jabez gains wealth and romantic success but drifts away from his friends. When Jabez meets publisher Daniel Webster, Webster presents an opportunity to undo his deal with the devil. Shortcut to Happiness is a captivating tale.
