Songcatcher

After failing to get a promotion at the university where she works, Dr. Lily Penleric, an esteemed musicologist, decides on a whim to visit her sister in the Appalachian region, who operates a challenging rural school. During her visit, she uncovers perhaps the most significant discovery of her career – a collection of historic Scots-Irish ballads, preserved through generations by the isolation of the mountain communities. Eager to bolster her chances for promotion, Lily travels deeper into the remote mountain areas to gather these songs, only to find herself becoming ever more fascinated by them.
