Spud 3: Learning to Fly

As Spud Milton navigates the turbulent waters of teenage years, he learns a vital lesson: appearances can be deceiving, especially when it comes to understanding women and dealing with troublemakers. “I’m almost a man now,” asserts Spud, celebrating his sixteenth birthday with newfound confidence. It’s 1992, and South Africa teeters on the brink of monumental change, while Spud hopes for a trouble-free year as he rejoins his boarding school as a senior. Instead, Spud finds himself facing old adversaries and a chatty newcomer from Malawi in his dormitory, alongside his usual quirky friends. With uncertainty surrounding him, Spud juggles Shakespearean literature, wrestles with spiritual doubts, and develops an aversion to fried fish after learning unsettling news about his grandmother, Wombat.
