Surge

SURGE is a compelling documentary that chronicles the unprecedented wave of first-time female candidates entering the political arena, winning, and transforming politics during the historic 2018 midterm elections. The film focuses on three determined candidates from Texas, Indiana, and Illinois, each striving to turn their traditionally red districts blue. Among them is Lauren Underwood, a trailblazing figure who became the youngest black woman elected to Congress. Underwood’s journey is particularly noteworthy as she transitions from her role as a licensed nurse and a public health expert to a freshman congresswoman actively advocating for COVID-19 relief efforts.
