The Bad Sleep Well

In this modern interpretation of “Hamlet,” Kôichi Nishi, an illegitimate son, ascends the corporate ladder in a Japanese company and weds the disabled daughter of the vice president, Iwabuchi. During their wedding reception, the cake—a replica of their corporate headquarters—triggers memories of Nishi’s father’s mysterious demise, which had been covered up. This revelation sets Nishi’s vengeance-fueled scheme into motion to address his father’s untimely death. The Bad Sleep Well (1960) is a thrilling tale of revenge and ambition.
