The Commune

Erik, an architecture lecturer, inherits a spacious, aging home in Hellerup, situated just north of Copenhagen. His wife, Anna, a prominent TV newscaster, proposes they fill the house with friends to break the monotonous routine that has started to plague their marriage. With this idea in motion, their home soon welcomes a dozen adults and children who participate in communal living, making group decisions, sharing lively conversations, and enjoying swims in the nearby Øresund strait. However, tensions arise from the mix of personalities and quirks under one roof. The stability of their community is tested when Erik becomes romantically involved with Emma, a student of his, who subsequently joins the household. Through all of this, Erik and Anna’s fourteen-year-old daughter, Freja, watches the unfolding dynamics with a detached curiosity, carving her own path amidst the chaos.
