The Door in the Floor

Set against the stunning backdrop of East Hampton, New York, The Door in the Floor weaves a tale that’s both sorrowful and amusing, delving deep into the multifaceted nature of love, capturing both its radiant moments and its shadowy depths. This film is adapted from John Irving’s acclaimed novel *A Widow for One Year* and centers around a transformative summer for renowned children’s author Ted Cole (played by Jeff Bridges) and his lovely wife Marion (Kim Basinger). Their marriage, once filled with promise, now suffers under the weight of past sorrows, leading Marion into melancholy and Ted into unfaithfulness, both of which hinder them from addressing the essential changes needed in their relationship. The introduction of Eddie O’Hare, Ted’s summer assistant, begins as an unintentional maneuver and evolves into a pivotal force reshaping their lives together.
