The Eel

In “The Eel” (1997), Yamashita, a white-collar professional, faces a life-changing event when he discovers his wife’s infidelity. Overcome by rage, he ends her life and subsequently serves an eight-year prison sentence. Upon his release, he settles in a small village and opens a barber shop, maintaining a solitary existence with minimal human interaction, preferring to “converse” with an eel he came to ‘know’ during his incarceration. His quiet life takes a turn when he discovers Keiko, an unconscious woman who recently attempted suicide and eerily reminds him of his late wife. Although she begins working at his barbershop, he remains emotionally distant and guarded, unwilling to let her get close. Watch “The Eel” online.
