The Empty Hands

Mari Hirakawa, a woman of mixed Chinese and Japanese heritage, grew up under the strict tutelage of her Karate instructor father. Resentful of the martial art from an early age, Mari always dreamed of selling the dojo once her father’s reign ended. After his passing, she eagerly anticipates a life of autonomy but is quickly surprised to learn that her father left her only 49% ownership of the dojo, while the majority share, 51%, is entrusted to his former student, Chan Keung, with whom Mari shares an uneasy history. The resulting conflict leads Chan to propose a challenge: should Mari succeed in an official martial arts tournament, he will hand over his entire share to her. Caught in a crucial decision, Mari faces a path that could redefine her future.
