The Empty Hours

Aarón Fernández’s sophomore film, “The Empty Hours (2013),” is a collaborative Spain-Mexico-France production that debuted during the 60th Festival as part of the Films in Progress segment. Set against the bleak backdrop of Veracruz’s coastline, the story follows 17-year-old Sebastián, who manages his uncle’s motel on his own, renting rooms by the hour. Through these duties, he encounters Miranda, a frequent visitor who waits for her often tardy lover, leading to a brief flirtation between them.
