The Fallen

“The Fallen” intricately weaves a narrative that chronicles the experiences of German, Italian, and American soldiers occupying Northern Italy in the waning days of World War II. An American supply unit embarks on a perilous mission to deliver ammunition to the forefront of battle, a task that becomes increasingly dire with each obstacle they encounter. Meanwhile, a beleaguered German squad and their Italian allies desperately try to uphold morale amidst inevitable defeat. Caught in this turmoil are Italians torn apart by internal conflict, as fascist soldiers and communist partisans engage in a brutal civil struggle, turning former allies against each other. This film vividly captures the soldiers’ daily existence, their interactions on dusty roads, and their aspirations and beliefs, highlighting the contrasting values and patriotism among these cultures as an era draws to a close.
