The Independent

The Independent is a 2000 comedic mockumentary, helmed by director Stephen Kessler. The film stars Jerry Stiller as Morty Fineman, a quirky independent filmmaker known for crafting obscure B movies with humorous titles like Twelve Angry Men and a Baby. This witty satire takes a lighthearted jab at indie directors and the independent film industry. The movie showcases appearances by Janeane Garofalo, Max Perlich, and a lineup of cameos from industry icons like Anne Meara, Ron Howard, and Roger Corman, among others. Morty Fineman’s fictional career amusingly claims to have spawned 427 films, although it’s unclear if these were all directed, produced, or perhaps even written by him. Watch The Independent now!
