The Knack… and How to Get It

Set against the backdrop of England’s mod and rocker era, the film unfolds as Nancy disembarks from a London train with her luggage, seeking a place at the YWCA. Meanwhile, Colin feels left out of the ongoing sexual revolution and turns to his suave yet chauvinistic friend Tolen to teach him ‘the knack’ for getting attention from women. Fate intervenes when Colin and his new roommate, Tom, encounter Nancy as Colin is shopping for a bed bigger than Tolen’s. Initially, they share a carefree camaraderie, but things take a turn when Tolen becomes involved with Nancy. Colin is envious yet powerless, while Tolen’s allure and repulsion leave Nancy in a state of confusion. The story dances on a fine line between playful chance and disconcerting ambiguity.
