The Metropolitan Opera: Lulu

In William Kentridge’s intricate staging of Berg’s celebrated work, the talented soprano Marlis Petersen takes on the complex lead role of Lulu, a mysterious woman who embodies both seductress, naive young girl, and mistreated victim. The story unfolds around the men she profoundly impacts, including Johan Reuter portraying the newspaper magnate Dr. Schön, Daniel Brenna as his composer offspring Alwa, Paul Groves as the Painter, and Franz Grundheber as Schigolch. The cast is completed by Susan Graham, who voices Countess Geschwitz, and Lothar Koenigs, who skillfully conducts Berg’s pioneering composition. Watch “The Metropolitan Opera: Lulu (2015)” here.
