The More You Ignore Me

Inspired by Jo Brand’s celebrated novel, *The More You Ignore Me* is a heartfelt comedy-drama capturing the essence of an eccentric family living in the English countryside during the 1980s. At the heart of the story is Gina, a young mother whose attempts at being a caring parent and spouse are challenged by her struggling mental health. The situation worsens when Gina becomes fixated on a local weatherman, resulting in her being hospitalized in a nearby psychiatric facility. As the years pass, her daughter Alice finds it difficult to connect with her medicated mother, leading her to hatch a plan to rekindle their bond—a plan that causes family conflicts and reaches a touching and dramatic conclusion. With its backdrop set to The Smiths’ music, the film skillfully blends humor with poignant themes of mental illness and its effects on a family.
