The Projects

Nestled in the suburban expanse of Osaka lies a lively housing project where residents find themselves constantly entangled in neighborhood antics—from misplaced recyclables to the echoes of heated arguments. Unaffected by these urban dramas are Hinako (Naomi Fujiyama) and Seiji (Ittoku Kishibe), an elderly couple attempting to rebuild their lives after closing their herbal medicine shop six months prior. However, curiosity flares when Seiji mysteriously vanishes, igniting rampant speculation of possible divorce, murder, or even dismemberment. As rumors spiral beyond belief, a peculiar visitor with a parasol and a penchant for natural remedies unveils a truth even more remarkable than whispered tales. Blending sharp wit, absurd adventures, and touching romantic moments, “The Projects” delivers one of this year’s most delightful cinematic surprises. Stream “The Projects (2016)” online.
