The Racer

In the summer of 1998, the initial stages of the prestigious Tour de France are moved to Ireland. Dom Chabol, a Belgian cyclist in his late 30s, has spent two decades excelling as a “Domestique,” a support rider whose role is to facilitate the team’s sprinter’s triumph by setting pace, shielding the wind, and offering assistance. Although victory is not an option for him, Dom secretly yearns to don the yellow jersey, even if just once before his career concludes. At what seems to be his final Tour, Dom is unexpectedly dropped from the team to which he has devoted his life. His closest friend Sonny, the team’s masseur, struggles to comfort him regarding his prospects. A fortuitous meeting with Lynn, a young Irish doctor, makes the situation more bearable, and Dom gradually starts embracing the notion of a civilian life with some enjoyment. However, just as he prepares to return home and confront his estranged sister, a doping mishap sidelines a teammate, thrusting Dom back into the competition.
