The Toy Soldiers

Set during a night in an era defined by sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll, the innocence of youth and the bond of family begin to fall apart. This tale unfolds through five distinct coming-of-age stories, each exploring a different stage of grief. We witness a young mother ensnared in a custody dispute seeking solace in alcohol, while the lingering trauma of her ex-husband’s abuse affects their teenage children—a nineteen-year-old drug addict and his younger brother, who faces the struggles of being a bullied, closeted homosexual. There’s also the narrative of a dog; a teenager who trades intimacy for acceptance, a devoted classmate willing to go to great lengths for her affections, and a striking redhead carrying the weight of a haunting, tragic secret. All these lives are set to change irrevocably on the last night before their favored gathering spot, The Toy Soldiers Roller Rink, shuts down for good. Don’t miss out on this profound narrative!
