Shmuel, a Hasidic cantor in Upstate New York, is deeply troubled by the sudden loss of his wife and finds himself unable to find comfort in his faith. He becomes secretly fixated on the physical decomposition of her body. This leads him to form a furtive bond with Albert, a biology professor at a nearby community college.
