Viva

In the vibrant heart of Havana’s drag scene, young hairdresser Jesús dreams of showcasing his talent on stage. Encouraged by his supportive mentor, Mama, he eventually gets the chance to perform. However, the return of his estranged father, Angel, fresh from a 15-year prison sentence, disrupts his aspirations. Angel’s traditional views clash with Jesús’s ambitions, leading to a tumultuous father-son relationship as they seek to understand and reconnect with each other. Set against the raw and unpolished backdrop of a lesser-seen Havana, Viva delivers an emotional tale of music, identity, and resilience. Watch Viva (2015) online; it’s streaming right here.
