Working Class Boy

Considered one of Australia’s legendary rock figures, Jimmy Barnes has achieved an impressive nine #1 albums. However, beneath his musical triumphs lay a life filled with hardship, where the very tunes that offered him solace nearly led to his downfall. Before becoming the iconic Jimmy Barnes, he was James Dixon Swan, a boy grappling with adversity on the gritty streets of Glasgow and North Adelaide, facing a harsh reality of addiction, alcoholism, poverty, and abuse. For Jimmy, escaping this environment was crucial, and he discovered a way out through joining Cold Chisel. Yet, the rock’n’roll scene presented its own challenges, with the shadows of his upbringing constantly looming. “Working Class Boy,” directed by seasoned Australian filmmaker Mark Joffe and adapted from Barnes’ bestselling memoir, presents a profound narrative of music and redemption. This film offers a raw and genuine insight into the intersections of fame, creativity, and mental health issues. Watch Working Class Boy.
